BIOGRAPHY

Legal Experience

Mr. Katz’s practice is concentrated in the area of complex cases involving substantial holdings or other difficult disputes, such as child custody issues, tracing assets over long periods of time or valuation of businesses. Since 1977, he has concentrated his practice in the matrimonial law field. Throughout his career, Mr. Katz has been appointed by the Courts to represent the interests of children in custody disputes, and he has extensive experience in custody litigation. His experience includes trials concerning the value of both manufacturing and service businesses and the classification of assets acquired over time.

Mr. Katz has been listed as one of the country’s leading matrimonial lawyers in the book Best Lawyers in America since 1983. He was also elected as one of the top 20 divorce lawyers in the Chicagoland area by North Shore Magazine. In 2003, Mr. Katz was elected for membership in the Leading Lawyer Network. Mr. Katz has been a frequent speaker for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Education, and he has also authored chapters in publication for this organization. Mr. Katz has been a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1977 and is currently a member of the Board of Managers in the Illinois Chapter of the Academy. Mr. Katz is a certified mediator, and he is presently leading a movement to bring Collaborative Law to Illinois.
